Inhale…. Exhale… ::deep breath::
First off, as someone who just wants a good drama, I’m very, VERY happy right now.
Second, this is not going to be easy to watch. They did not preview any of the emotional scenes (not yet anyway) but the knowledge that something very tragic is about to happen makes some of the scenes difficult to watch.
The fan accounts of the previews for eps. 7 & 8 were rather confusing, and we ended up tracking down the previews ourselves so we could check with our own eyes. So yes, I’ve seen these previews. They’re not like those 30-sec. trailers at the end of the episodes. These are about 8-min. long and preview a variety of scenes from the beginning of the episodes.
My recap’s going to be fairly detailed, so you know the drill if you don’t want to get spoiled. DO NOT LOOK INSIDE. And for those who choose to get spoiled, please make sure to spoiler-cut anything that might spoil the episodes.
I know episode 6 ended on MR & EG, and the beginning of episode 7 does elaborate how EG came to have that picture. (Confirming it’s Lawyer Ahn who was behind it.) But this preview doesn’t tell us what takes place btw MR & EG, in fact, both previews make a point of not showing any MR/EG scene.
Doesn’t make it any less interesting though, because we see EG next with Joon-Ha at a coffee shop, finally hearing the entire story behind MR & Jae-Hee, at least as far as Joon-Ha was able to find out. That MR was the one who saved her on the plane, that he did time for manslaughter, that he & JH have known each other for 19 yrs & were lovers. It’s clear that EG’s dazed and shaken and reeling from the news, but if you guessed from the preview that… she might not blame him for deceiving her, then you guessed right because her reaction to all of that? “So what?” And when Joon-Ha insists that MR needs to be taken care of, that’s when she says what she says in the preview: “Don’t you dare touch a hair on him.” And she means it.
Maru in the meantime has tracked down Jae-Hee’s brother, Jae-Shik, who wants to know where she is. He just got out of jail after 8 yrs. and it’s obvious he has no idea she’s become a chaebol’s mistress. I’m not going to spoil the rest of this scene, except to say that it’s very intense and, yes, explosive.
Next we see Chairman Seo with Jae-Hee, and he’s very upset to have learned EG’s staying with MR. He demands that MR be taken care of, and when JH says neither money nor threat to throw him into jail is going to make him give up EG, Chairman Seo: “Just go to that bastard’s place and bring her back.” In other words, use force, if necessary.
Preview ends with MR getting ambushed when he returns home.
No idea what happened afterwards in episode 7, but it’s clear that those thugs beating MR to within an inch of his life hasn’t persuaded EG to return home because first scene of the preview shows EG resting/sleeping peacefully in his room in the morning, just like in episode 6, but with her foot bandaged. (Text preview says she got hurt, but doesn’t tell us how.) Where’s Maru? Shopping. (His face’s all bruised, btw.) Outdoors clothes & shoes. FOR Eun-Gi. Because he wants to take her on a trip. ::weeps:: I know, PPL time, but gawd, that was a sweet scene. (And if you want to know what he bought, it’s what MCW’s wearing here on the beach.)
On the other side of the town, Jae-Hee’s world has come crashing down around her. Chairman Seo has found out about JH and Lawyer Ahn, and he’s decided to will everything to EG, leaving out not just JH but also Eun-Seok too. She wants to beg for forgiveness, but Ahn says it’s not going to work with the Chairman. I’m not sure how she intends to get out of this hellhole she carved out for herself, but she decides to place a call to MR, faking an attack from her brother. Basically, what took place in episode 1, except that it’s all 100% lies, and she’s just trying to trap him into coming to the family’s summer house, which is where she’s staying. Unlike in episode 1, MR doesn’t rush to her side immediately. Places another call to her just outside his house, tells her to call the police, but it sounds like she gets hysterical and is now faking injuries because he shouts at her to stop crying and asks her where she is. Inside the house, EG has woken up and is going through all the stuff MR has bought for her. Inside the shoe box, she finds a message from MR, “Let’s go on a trip”, and is visibly pleased. Then a little disappointed when MR texts her “something’s happened and I have to take care of it. It’s getting late so let’s leave tomorrow. There’s rice in the cooker, so go ahead and eat first.” Then finally, an anonymous message that just says three lines: “Kang Maru. Han Jae-Hee. Yang-Pyung summer house.” (Yang-Pyung’s where the family summer house is.)
The end. Of the preview anyway.
