Forgive the rant, but I’m feeling a little cranky—not from Maru & Eun-Gi, they were pure gold—about a few things:
* I’m all for SJK getting some rest every now & then, but Jae-Gil’s and Choco’s storyline & scenes need to improve pronto because they’re absolutely useless and complete filler. And it also hurts the ratings. I saw the real-time data for the episode and you could actually see the ratings drop every time they appeared on screen. Then jump back up when the main characters took over. Nice Guy won’t lose the #1 spot, but I don’t expect this episode to beat last week’s/episode 6’s ratings. Not a bad surprise if it does, but doesn’t seem realistic.
* If I see anybody getting on Maru’s case as far as this episode’s concerned, I’m going to hit something. That man deserves all the love and compassion and humanity that Eun-Gi has for him, and just because he may not be 100% in love with her yet doesn’t mean he doesn’t care for her or have feelings for her, because HE EFFING DOES and those feelings he’s developing for her matter as much as the love she has for him. SO DON’T RUSH HIM. Don’t blame him for not being at the same place emotionally as Eun-Gi just yet. Maybe it can’t be labelled 100% love just yet, but what he feels for her is just as important as what she feels for him, and I’m getting sick & tired of “either he loves her or he doesn’t” criticism of his feelings.
He let her go, when she was dumping him, even though it was obvious he wasn’t ready to put an end to their relationship yet, for the simple reason that it was what Eun-Gi wanted. He didn’t lash out or anything, even as she was telling him the reason she was breaking up with him was because he was too beneath for her and she just wanted to have some fun, a mad passion for a while. All lies on Eun-Gi’s part, of course, but he has no idea and it certainly doesn’t make it any less painful. And yet he didn’t say anything back.
He made a point of buying some medicine for her, even as he was rushing out to see Jae-Hee’s brother, because he was concerned about her, not realizing the reason she looked so pale was because she was still reeling from finding out about his history with Jae-Hee. He kept a watch over her drinking. And even as she was leaving/dumping him, he made sure she took the medicine because he was worried about her.
He was beaten to a pulp, within an inch of his life, and was warned that if he didn’t sign those papers vowing never to see Eun-Gi again, they were going to take even more drastic measures. (“The one(s) you care about will be next.”) HE DIDN’T SIGN THOSE D@MN PAPERS.
He deserves to have the kind of future and dreams Eun-Gi has for the both of them, and believe me, he wasn’t immune nor untouched by her confessions. And when he saw Jae-Hee, it wasn’t annoyance they got interrupted. The way he hugged Eun-Gi tighter, almost instinctively as if he sensed Jae-Hee preying on Eun-Gi, and his eye (his one eye that wasn’t swollen *sob*) got deadly looking back at Jae-Hee was Maru warning Jae-Hee not to touch or hurt Eun-Gi.
And gawd that preview… not the whole thing, but at the beginning just with Eun-Gi and Maru… *sob*
Still no idea what to expect from tomorrow, but sincerely hope the blissful note at the beginning lasts for a while or it’s going to be hard to take.
