You know what was hard to watch in episode 7? Maru’s intense loneliness.

I didn’t realize until episode 7 that we rarely see him by himself, at least to the point where you feel his loneliness. But the thing is, even when he is with people like his sister or his friend, he doesn’t talk about himself, he doesn’t share his feelings, he doesn’t unload, at all. When he suffers, he suffers by himself. So it wasn’t until Eun-Gi left him that I realized she’s really the only one with whom he’s connected since we met him, all changed, by the second half of episode 1. (Their connection is also different from his scenes with Jae-Hee, in the sense that present-day JH doesn’t get him, not to the extent that EG does.)
And whether or not he realized that himself… it tore my heart out that as he said goodbye to EG for what he thought was the last time, after making sure she had her medicine and telling her to go to the hospital first thing in the morning, because he can’t stop caring… she kept staring at him as if she wanted to remember his face forever in her heart, but he wouldn’t look at her, not even as he said goodbye.
